Black Velvet Martini

With Saint Patrick's Day right around the corner, we wanted to pay our respects to Ireland by taking inspiration from the beloved tradition of Irish storytelling in one of its most popular forms. This year, the cocktails at Dancing Bears Restaurant are inspired by Irish traditional song and music. So make yourself a tasty beverage, sit back and enjoy a few of our favorite songs by some of our favorite artists.

Sláinte!

If ever there was a dangerous cocktail it's got to be the martini and we took inspiration for ours from one of the most dangerous girls in traditional Irish music. Black Velvet Band is the story of a man smitten from the first by a girl with sparkling eyes and long hair she ties up with a black velvet ribbon. Soon after they meet he finds himself in over his head when she pickpockets a watch from a passer-by and frames our narrator for the theft for which he is found guilty and sent to Australia.

The aromatics of vanilla vodka, Kahlua and Guinness make our Black Velvet Martini similarly tempting and the ease at which you can drink it makes getting over your head a delightfully perilous adventure! Your martini sipping soundtrack below is the Irish Rovers version of Black Velvet Band.
