Skiing and Riding at Whiteface Mountain Imagine endless intermediate cruisers and long steeps. Reading between the lines (no the lift lines here) this means maximum skiing and boarding with minimum time on the lifts. But when you do go back uphill, among the choices is a quick ride on a quad chair or recharge in a high speed gondola. You'll need that rest period if you plan on arcing turns down a 3.5 miles intermediate run from summit to base. Couple this with a separate, yet connected Kids Kampus, and you can see why Whiteface is an undiscovered gem for families, singles and couples. Entering the 2010-2011 winter, Whiteface was ranked in 1st among eastern US ski resorts and 2nd in North America, according to readers of SKI Magazine. Whiteface presents an outdoor experience free of commerical interests - as land legally protected by the Adirondack Forest Preserve - where exhiliration of these sports is what still matters. In front of you is over 3,100 vertical feet, the most east of the Rockies, and more vertical than many ski areas west of the Rockies. Anticipated opening is Thanksgiving weekend; the season continues into April. |
