What to Do During a Fall Staycation to Lake Placid

This summer has been a weird one, to say the least. Annual trips were canceled, and even if you still want to go somewhere, everything seems harder to plan right now. Enter the fall staycation in Lake Placid, NY.

fall at the lake house

Trade the ocean for the lake and long flights for a quick drive into the Adirondack Mountains this fall. Make High Peaks Resort your staycation headquarters and enjoy feeling like a tourist in a town you think you already know! Special rates are available now for mid-week guests from nearby zip codes.

Be on the Water

Book a room right on the water when you stay at High Peaks Resort's Waterfront Collection, offering rooms that not only look out over Mirror Lake, but are right at the water's edge. Walk out of your room and cast a fishing line, launch one of the resort's complimentary canoes or kayaks for an early morning paddle, or take a dip after a hike on nearby trails. It's pure bliss to be on the water right now, but even if you don't book one of our waterfront rooms, High Peaks Resort and Lake House are just a few feet from the shoreline.

Don't Rent, Use Our Watercrafts

That's our motto when it comes to canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats. We have a small fleet available for our guests' use during your stay. Get up early and go for a paddle to watch the mist rise from the water and the loons call to one another. Go paddleboarding after lunch or float for the rest of the afternoon. All water vessels are cleaned and disinfected after each guest's use.

The Spa & Salon is Open

Relax and feel restored after a treatment or two at the Spa & Salon at High Peaks Resort. Our on-site day spa offers a full menu of innovative and traditional treatments. Try a CBD-oil massage, or get the best pedicure of your life. Get a facial after hiking for a glowing complexion or try something new with your hair. Walk out of the spa feeling like new.

Venture Out Safely

Explore safely while enjoying your Adirondack staycation by following the state's guidelines, including social distancing and wearing a mask. Many of our attractions are open for reduced hours or by appointment. You can still visit The Wild Center in Tupper Lake by appointment only. Explore Wild Walk and outdoor exhibits and trails, and time your visit to correspond with a special program presentation to learn about local critters and more. In Wilmington, the ever-popular Whiteface Memorial Highway Toll Road is open, and the Cloudsplitter Gondola is offering scenic rides to the summit of Little Whiteface. It's always a good idea to call ahead when visiting an attraction to see if there are any special requirements or restrictions in place.

Savor This Time

This is the last and most important factor when taking a staycation in the Adirondacks at High Peaks Resort. It's been a wild couple of months and we know how much you've looked forward to getting away and relaxing. Things might not look the same or feel the same, but there's adventure in the everyday escape if you plan – or don't plan – it right.
