Our Peak Pups Program

When your dog checks in, they aren't just along for the ride. They become a Peak Pup, and Peak Pups travel in style. Every dog-friendly room comes stocked with a comfy dog bed, food and water bowls, and a special treat for your dog.

Our dog-friendly rooms are spread across the Main Building, Lake House, and Waterfront Collection, each offering easy outdoor access for early morning sniff sessions, mid-afternoon games of fetch, and the inevitable 2 AM bathroom run. A quick note for travelers searching for pet-friendly accommodations in Lake Placid: while we love animals of every kind, our program is designed specifically for dogs.

Dog Fees and Policies

The dog fee is $75 per dog, per night, plus tax, with a maximum of two dogs per room. $5 (per dog, per night) from each dog fee is donated to a local animal welfare organization (more on that below). A valid credit card is required at registration, and our full Dog Registration Conditions and Agreement will be reviewed at check-in.

Here is what we ask of every Peak Pup and their human:

  • Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times on resort property. Designated dog-walking areas are located at the rear of the Main Building and Lake House parking lots, away from the busier guest areas.
  • Please clean up after your dog on resort grounds and throughout the Village of Lake Placid. If you run out of bags, we can point you toward a fresh supply.
  • Dogs are not permitted in the pool areas, fitness center, or any food and beverage outlet.
  • Please do not leave your dog unattended in your guest room, on a balcony or patio, or in any common area at any time.
  • If you need to step out and want your room serviced, press the "Service at its Peak" button on your room phone and we will arrange a time that works around your dog's schedule. Our team will not enter a guest room while a dog is inside without their owner.
  • We appreciate your help in keeping noise and barking to a minimum, both for fellow guests and for the other dogs on property who might bark right back.
  • We ask that dogs stay off the beds and furniture whenever possible.

When Things Go Sideways

We know dogs are dogs, and the occasional accident or excited bark is part of traveling with one. That said, we have a responsibility to other guests and to our property, so a few specifics:

  • If your dog causes serious damage to an item on the property, you will be charged the full replacement value.
  • Rooms returned with damage or excessive cleaning needs are subject to a cleaning fee, with a minimum charge of $250.
  • Chronic or repeated disturbances may require you to board your dog at a local kennel for the remainder of your stay, or to check out early and you may be liable for any refunds given to other guests because of your dog.

High Peaks Resort reserves the right to decline entry or refuse occupancy to any dog at any time, at our discretion.

Paws for a Greater Cause

Every dog fee at High Peaks Resort includes a $5 per dog, per night donation to a local animal welfare organization working to care for and rehome dogs and cats in the Adirondack region. The dogs who travel with their families through our doors are some of our most enthusiastic guests, and we wanted their stay to do something for the dogs who haven't found a family yet.

If your pup wags their way through the lobby this weekend, know that a small piece of that joy is being passed along to the dogs who are still waiting their turn.

Currently Supporting: Tri-Lakes Humane Society

The Tri-Lakes Humane Society is a no-kill animal shelter that has been caring for the dogs and cats of the Adirondacks since 1942. The shelter began with a group of teenagers and a chicken-wire doghouse in Saranac Lake. More than eighty years later, it serves Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, and nine other surrounding towns, finding homes for 300 to 400 animals every year.

Since January 2024, guests of High Peaks Resort have contributed $17,500 to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society through the Paws for a Greater Cause program. Beyond the donation, our team also participates in enrichment outings with the shelter's adoptable dogs, taking them out of the kennel environment for walks, fresh air, and the kind of social time that helps prepare them for life with a future family. It's one of the more rewarding parts of working here, and one of the easier ways we get to spend a morning.
