Iconic Winter Events & Activities

Winter doesn't come to the Adirondacks.

No, winter makes an annual pilgrimage to the Adirondacks and falls into an almost majestic slumber for four months or more, wrapping itself in a picturesque cocoon of fresh snow. The residents of the Adirondack High Peaks region have been celebrating the cold winter temperatures with warm hospitality and outdoor recreation since the late 1800s. Whether it's holiday magic or a historic tradition of winter sports, Lake Placid gives you a reason to revel in the season all winter long.

In Lake Placid, celebrating the holidays is a month-long event and it begins with the Lake Placid Holiday Village Stroll. It's a weekend full of family-friendly activities, food and beverage tastings, live music and entertainment, and holiday traditions that will leave you singing, "it's the most wonderful time of the year."

International Children's Games

January 6 - 11, 2019

As a two-time Winter Olympics host city, Lake Placid is no stranger to international level winter sports competition. And because Lake Placid and the surrounding region sends homegrown competitors to each Winter Olympics, we know better than anyone the importance of emphasizing sports, cross-cultural engagement, and healthy competition in childhood. This January, we're excited to welcome the International Children's Games to Lake Placid. Modeled after the Olympic Games and sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee, the ICG brings together children from all over the world to compete in eight winter sports games and promote cultural exchange in the spirit of global community and Lake Placid will be the first United States city to host these remarkable competitors.
