Whiskey in the Jar

With Saint Patrick's Day right around the corner, we wanted to pay our respects to Ireland by taking inspiration from the beloved tradition of Irish storytelling in one of its most popular forms. This year, the cocktails at Dancing Bears Restaurant are inspired by Irish traditional song and music. So make yourself a tasty beverage, sit back and enjoy a few of our favorite songs by some of our favorite artists.


How far back this song dates is unknown though some believe it likely originated in the 17th Century. What it undisputed is that it has become one of the most widely performed and adapted Irish traditional songs today; since it was first recorded by Séamus Ennis in 1951 it has been performed by Burl Ives, Peter, Paul and Mary, The Grateful Dead, Thin Lizzy, The Pogues and Metallica, to name just a few. We've included a version by the incomparable Luke Kelly and The Dubliners to get you in the spirit!

Our Whiskey in the Jar cocktail features, of course, Jameson Irish Whiskey, and makes a pretty penny in its copper mule mug; just the kind of mug we think a highwayman would have taken with him on the road! With its refreshing lime juice and the golden ginger beer of Jed's Mule Kicker, we think this cocktail is quite easy to take delight in. Luke Kelly and The Dubliners - Whiskey in the Jar


1 1/2 ounce Jameson Irish Whiskey
Jed's Mule Kicker (or hard Ginger Beer)
Garnish: Lime Wedge


  1. Fill copper mule mug with ice to the top.
  2. Add Jameson Irish Whiskey and the fresh squeezed juice of one lime.
  3. Fill the rest of the copper mug with Jed's Mule Kicker or hard ginger beer of your choice.
  4. Garnish with fresh lime wedge.
