Whiteface Pondskimming

Spring skiing in the Adirondacks reaches its most spectacular, and most hilarious, peak every April at Whiteface Mountain. The annual International Pondskimming Competition returns on April 11, 2026, inviting skiers and snowboarders to test their skills, their costumes, and their willingness to get very, very wet. Whiteface Competitors dress in creative and wacky costumes and attempt to cross an artificial pond, with winners judged on staying dry, creating the biggest splash, and showcasing the best style on and off the water.

Registration opens Saturday morning at Guest Services from 8 AM to 11 AM, limited to the first 100 contestants. Not competing? No problem. At noon, spectators can cheer on the action from the Round-A-Bout trail or the Cloudspin Deck. It is one of the most beloved late-season traditions in the Adirondacks, and the perfect excuse to extend your Lake Placid winter getaway just a little longer.
